Senior Test Technician

Upwing Energy is searching for an experienced test technician with expertise in performing tests for high-speed turbomachinery. We are looking for a professional who enjoys unique challenges, varied assignments, and has the initiative to take on complex testing projects and drive them to completion. The test technician is a member of a cross-functional team that will develop and operate complex turbomachinery systems for oil and gas applications. 

The test technician will be responsible for executing Upwing’s extensive test program through the hardware development lifecycle, including prototyping and delivery/installation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This positions’ primary focus is safely testing full electromechanical systems and subsystems consisting of motors, compressors, pumps and bearings, following methods, procedures, standards and sequences. The candidate will complete test setups and instrumentation, run and observe tests and acquire/record the necessary test data for analysis by engineering. 
  • Assist engineering in the development and/or modification of procedures
  • Review work instructions, drawings and verbal instructions of engineers to understand testing requirements of units under test
  • Often work independently troubleshooting to the component level
  • Make adjustments to units under test to help meet test criteria
  • Assist in data reporting, including observations, anomalies and configuration changes

Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience testing turbomachinery equipment
  • Experience working with high voltage systems
  • Experience interpreting and using measurement equipment, including but not limited to prox. probes, accelerometers, pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, load cells and flow meters
  • Experience with computerized data acquisition and data reduction (LabVIEW preferred)
  • Must have computer knowledge and the ability to read, write and comprehend schematics (electrical, plumbing and instrumentation) and assembly drawings
  • Experienced in mechanical lifting and handling
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA compliance, process safety management and risk assessment
  • Experience plumbing and operating hydraulic systems is a plus
  • Experience laying out and wiring data acquisition systems
  • Forklift and crane certification is a plus

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This position will be in the shop environment most of the time. Personal protective equipment should be work in designates shop floor areas. The candidate must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted and will be required to sit, bend, lift, squat, kneel and climb ladders and step stools.
